The restaurant was named after the Village historian Philander Barclay who lived in Oak Park from 1878 to 1940. The walls are decorated with his photographs depicting the glory days of Oak Park. The restaurant has an elegant turn of the century décor, showcasing a grand oak and marble octagonal jazz bar and upscale lounge. The restaurant also highlights live jazz entertainment, an outdoor café in the summer, and extensive bar menu. Philander’s restaurant is open every day, excluding certain holidays. Entertainment and Special Events Philander’s offers live jazz entertainment in its upscale bar and lounge area, highlighting a diverse selection of Chicago artists. Thursdays, the music is from 7:30pm to 11:00pm, Friday and Saturday evenings from 8:00pm to 12:00am. Philander’s Lounge and Bar is an intimate place to relax with friends and The Barclay room, with its wine cellar atmosphere, can be rented for private parties up to 40 people.
